Long term supporter Pat Wilson has raised an incredible £6,500 for Martha through making her fabric face masks!

Pat  is no stranger to supporting Martha having embarked on two car challenges – Rome or Bust and Monte Carlo Madness, raising in excess of £13k with her friend Jill Burford.

Pat started making the masks initially for neighbours and friends in the street she lives in however as more people were asking for the masks and wanting to donate, she saw it as a perfect opportunity to raise money for the charity that is close to her heart.

Pat says “ In these challenging times, many of Martha’s own fundraising activities are on hold and small charities like Martha are suffering so much due to COVID19 so this was a win, win, win situation : a win for the charity through the fundraising, a win for people receiving masks to help them feel more safe and a win for me as it keeps me busy during lockdown whilst supporting Martha at the same time! I am indebted to Mary Finn of Blind Illusions for gifting all the lining.

Resident Charlotte and her amazing parents is one of the reasons I am so passionate about raising funds for Martha Trust. I asked father Brett Martin for some words to share about his daughter. This is what he wrote. ‘’Charlotte has an amazing sense of humour and can be very cheeky, communicating through her eyes (don’t most women!). When she laughs, it’s infectious, if you’re having a bad day, just spend 30secs in her company and the day will feel so much better. Charlotte adores, music, water and the wind & because of this asks her carers to take her out for a walk in all weathers. Of course it’s not all fun and laughter, Charlotte suffers from Rett syndrome which brings its own share of pain and disabilities too. Martha Trust helps make the most or her abilities and stimulates her to make the very best out of her life.’

I have been blown away by the support – people have been very generous, donating an average of £10 per mask.”

Fundraising & Events Officer Kerry Banks BEM, says “ Pat has been supporting Martha since 2016 and we feel so incredibly fortunate to have her as one of our long term supporters- she is an absolute Legend! Pat has helped to raise huge amounts of money for Martha over the years and her new venture with the masks has been going phenomenally well – we love our masks! Thanks also to Mary at Blind Illusions who has been supporting Pat with her project .The monies raised from Pat’s fundraising will enable our very special residents to enjoy more activities in the homes and also go towards helping bridge the income gap which the pandemic has caused.”
