Cricketers and All Stars raise funds for Martha Trust

A host of top sporting names competed in a golf tournament recently to raise funds for Martha Trust.

Led by ex-England cricketer Derek Underwood, famous names from the sporting world were joined by paying guests, in a match based on the Ryder Cup at Dale Hill in Ticehurst, East Sussex.

Derek Underwood led a team of past and present cricketers including Ross Edwards, Graham Johnson and Darren Stevens against a team of 'All Stars'. The All Stars were led by ex-Welsh rugby star John Taylor and included jockey Philip Mitchell and Ladies European Tour golfers Liza Walters and Natalie Booth.
Derek Underwood explained why he wanted to support the Martha Trust golf day: "Martha Trust provides loving residential and respite care to people with profound and multiple disabilities in Kent and East Sussex". He continued:" I want to help this small local charity with its very worthwhile cause, and I'm extremely grateful to all the Cricketers, All Stars, sponsors, individuals and companies who supported the day".
Emily Shepherd, Director of Operations for Martha Trust responded; "We are delighted that Derek Underwood and so many famous sporting names have supported our second golf day. The day has been very enjoyable and very competitive!"
The Trust raised £6,500 profit from their ticket sells, auction and donations. The money will be used to buy essential sensory equipment.
The Trust plans to host their third golf day in the New Year. Please contact Mickele Cordes on 01304 615223 for further information.
