Leading by example, is certainly true for Graham Simmons, Chief Executive of Martha Trust. Graham and a group of friends walked 60 miles and raised an amazing £13,000 to purchase vital equipment for the profoundly disabled residents at Martha Trust.
The walk commenced in Paddock Wood and finished 3 days later at the Martha Trust site near Deal. Graham persuaded 25 friends from Paddock Wood Baptist Church to join him, many of whom had never undertaken such a serious walk before.
The staff and residents at Martha Trust organised a barbeque to celebrate the end of the walk, and to thank the walkers for their dedication and hard work. Graham said “The welcome we received at Martha when we turned the last corner and saw the crowd waiting to greet us was overwhelming. It made all the pain and hard work worthwhile!”.
The money raised will be used to buy sensory equipment for the hydrotherapy pool on site. Graham commented “All 18 residents at Martha House and Frances House in Deal use the hydrotherapy pool daily; the sensory equipment will improve the experience for all our residents”.
