During 2005 Mr. Wood captained the Evergreens section for members aged 60yrs and over and chose to support Martha Trust as his charity during the year. Mr. Wood arranged a number of fundraising events for the golfers including an 'Evergreen Captain's Day'. One bunker was also dedicated to Martha Trust, and each time a member's ball landed in that bunker they paid a contribution towards the Martha Trust fund.
The Evergreen Captain explained why Martha Trust was selected: "Martha Trust provides loving residential and respite care to very profoundly disabled adults ." He continued: "I wanted to help this small local charity with its very worthwhile cause, and I'm extremely grateful to the Evergreen members for their support and generosity to the Martha Trust".
Emily Shepherd, Operations and Development Manager from Martha Trust accepted the cheque at the presentation ceremony this week. She said: “Each year we must raise around £250K from voluntary donations to ensure that our residents have the best possible care and enjoy a wide range of opportunities so that each of them may fulfil his or her potential. This generous donation will be
used towards this purpose and
will help make a difference to
the lives of the people we serve at Martha Trust.”
