Mary House (previously known as Agape House) was opened last November by the Martha Trust, a small Christian charity committed to providing quality, loving residential and respite care for adults and children with profound physical and learning disabilities.
Several residents and staff attended the blessing, including Martha Trust’s Chief Executive, Graham Simmons. Mr Simmons explained why the blessing was important: “We wanted a special ceremony to thank God for all that has been achieved at Mary House but also to mark the beginning of a new chapter and to ask for God’s blessing on all who live and work at Mary House presently and all those to come.” He continued: “Many churches in Hastings and East Sussex, have contacted us since we opened to wish us well. We were delighted when Reverend Chris Lawrence from St Peters in Stonegate, offered to perform this blessing. It was a simple, but touching ceremony which was appreciated by residents and staff.
Reverend Lawrence, heard about the work at Mary House through the Hastings and St Leonard’s Observer. He commented: “There is very little care provision for young adults with profound disabilities in the East Sussex area. Mary House provides the very best care available, and we are delighted to support the home.”
The Martha Trust also runs two homes in Deal for adults and children with profound physical and learning disabilities.
