Firefighters visit local Residential Home
September 2006

Two Blue Watch firefighters from The Ridge Community Fire Station recently made a special visit to their new neighbours. John Keen and Ted Williams came to meet some of the residents and staff at Mary House, the new residential home for young people with profound disabilities on The Ridge. The firefighters arrived in their engine to the delight of the young residents, and spent time touring the site and getting to know the eight young people who live at the home.

John Keen said; “We had a wonderful reception from the young people at Mary House.” He continued; “We hope our new friends will visit us at The Ridge Community Fire Station soon.”

Nurse Claire Howie explained how much the residents enjoyed the visit; “The young people enjoyed showing the firefighters around the home and seeing the engine in the car park. It was also fascinating hearing their stories about their work in Hastings.”

Mary House is run by Martha Trust a charity providing residential and respite care for people with profound and multiple disabilities. Providing the very special care that each resident needs is expensive, and Martha Trust must raise significant amounts each year.

Fundraising activities are being planned in the Hastings area over the forthcoming months to help pay for a new sensory garden and hydrotherapy pool. For more information call Julie Brett on 01424 757966 or visit the web-site www.marthatrust.org.uk
