Phil will be joined by three friends on their travels to Monte Carlo.

Richard and Andrew make up car 12, and their car theme is The Mutt Mobil!

The popular Sandwich bar and dining room – The Hop and Huffkin held a great evening of Kentish Tapas, music and dance in aid of Music4Martha.The line up on the night included Tom Abrahams, gypsy jazz guitarist ; Abigail Cardwell, jazz singer ; Anna Harman, Flamenco dancer ; Nathan Allon, Soul singer.

We would like to Thank everyone who supported the event including the Hop and Huffkin, their customers and suppliers and not forgetting the musicians and dancers who provided the entertainment on the night.

Ian from the Hop and Huffkin said ‘I am connected with Tom Abrahams whose sister Charlotte resides at the Martha Trust in Hacklinge. Tom has been playing at the Hop and Huffkin in Sandwich for 20 months since we opened. We get asked for lots of charitable donations however last year we made the  decision to support just one local charity. After speaking with Tom about Martha Trust, then visiting the homes, we decided we wanted that charity to be Martha. Our ethos at the Hop and Huffkin is to support local, even with our suppliers, so this lovely local charity fitted the criteria perfectly.

The event was supported by a number of local businesses – Kentish Pip, Lives R Good 4 U Ltd, Catering Supplies, Chandler & Dunn, The Sandwich Sausage Co, Gadds, Page & Sons, J C Rook & Sons, Whitstable Brewery, E T Wilmshurst & Sons, The Strand Wine Co.

The teams for Bonkers in Barcelona set off in the early hours on their 841 mile trip from Dover to Barcelona.

We wish them all the best of luck and look forward to hearing all about their adventure on their return.

The aim of challenge is to raise funds for Martha.

Bonkers in Barcelona wouldn’t have been possible without the support of all our generous sponsors in particular Systems Technology, Sota, Unipet, Ward & Partners and DFDS Seaways.

Glorious sunshine greeted guests joining in the fun at the Sandwich Prom held at the magnificent Salutation Gardens.

There was a diverse line up of local musicians, including P & O Ferries Choir, Steve Aiston and the Victory Wartime band amongst others.  Terry Nash also known as Meet Loaf kept the audience entertained in between acts and closed the show with his live tribute act which included a surprise duet sung with Steph & Dom.

The charity auction was run with great skill and humour by Steph & Dom and the crowd showed remarkable generosity bidding on various lots.

The success of the day was also down to our kind sponsors – Discovery Park, A Pearson Growers, Puma Generators and East Kent Plumbing & Heating Solutions.  And not forgetting our army of volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the event ran smoothly.  Special thanks also to Alan Langley of Dover Designs who kindly came along to capture the event on camera.

Everyone’s efforts proved to be very worthwhile, as the event is anticipated to have raised £8,000 towards the work of Martha.

A record number of children came to visit Father Christmas at this year’s Martha Trust Christmas Fayre.  Martha Resident Jenny Jones and her  Support Worker Lauren Goodban played an active role as elves for the morning, showing children in to see Father Christmas.

Sandwich Music Group played Christmas Carols while people browsed the stalls and enjoyed tea and coffee and a range of cakes and sweets made by the residents, staff and volunteers of Martha Trust.
